UT's Summer Statistics Institute (SSI) offers intensive four-day workshops on diverse topics from introductory data sciences to advanced statistics. Whether you are new to data analysis or a seasoned statistician, SSI provides a unique hands-on opportunity to acquire valuable skills directly from experts in the field. The UT Summer Statistics Institute (SSI) is open to 700 participants.

The 25 courses span introductory statistics, statistical software, statistical methods and statistics applications. Each course will meet for four half-days, either mornings or afternoons, for a total of twelve hours. Instructors will post lectures, datasets, exercises, and course information on a website accessible to enrolled participants. There will be no examinations, and participants will receive certificates upon completion. Academic credit will not be issued. Please carefully check the specified prerequisite knowledge before enrolling in a course.

The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences now offers credit for educational professional development opportunities during our 2017 Summer Statistics Institute! Teachers currently working in PK–12 settings can 12 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) by attending one of our 25 exciting SSI courses held May 22-25, 2017.

UT Austin Students: $200 per course 

UT Austin Faculty & Staff: $300 per course

UT System Faculty & Staff: $300 per course

Non-UT Austin Students: $250 per course 

General Registration: $600 per course

Groups (State Institutions and Agencies): A 20% discount is available for groups of five or more (or groups registering for a total of five classes or more) from the same institution/agency: $480 per person per course. Please email for assistance with State Insitution and Agency group registration.

Registration fees can be paid by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express) or by IDT (UT-Austin employees/students only).

To pay by IDT please enter your appropriate discount code and provide the IDT number at checkout.

Affiliations with UT will be confirmed by our staff. Non-UT students must send us a copy of their current student identification.

Parking: Parking on campus is a premium. Since SSI occurs during the break between the spring and summer semesters, the UT Shuttles will not be operating. The nearest parking garages are the Brazos parking garage (BRG) located at 210 E. MLK, the San Antonio Garage (SAG) located at 2420 San Antonio Street, and the AT&T Executive Education Center parking garage (CCG) located at 1900 University Avenue. Parking in any of the "A," "F," "D," "OV" or "O" spaces on campus might result in the issuance of a citation.

Visitor Information:

Refund/Cancellation Policies: A full refund of registration fees, less a $25 cancellation fee, will be available if requested in writing and received by March 31, 2017. No refunds will be made after that date. Please note that course substitutions cannot be made. If you fail to cancel by the deadline and do not attend, you are still responsible for full payment. UT reserves the right to cancel courses during the Summer Statistics Institute and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration.

How to Get Your UT EID: You must have a current UT EID to register for the Summer Statistics Institute. To obtain a UT EID, visit and select “Get a UT EID.” If you have a UT EID, but you do not know your password, select “Find/Reset My Password.”

Your UT EID will allow you access to your course website and software applications, if applicable, during the Summer Statistics Institute. It is highly recommended to verify your EID and Password are up to date prior to May 22.

Wait Lists: We do not maintain a priority waiting list. However, if you are unable to register for a course because it is full, contact us at and provide us with the name of the course and your email address. If there is sufficient demand for a course, and resources allow, we may open additional seats or sections in those courses beginning April 1. You will be notified by email if additional seats will be opened. Registration will continue to be first-come, first-served for these additional seats.

Hotels:  Austin Folk House (506 W 22nd Street) and Star of Texas Inn (611 W 22nd Street) in Austin, TX (affiliated Bed & Breakfasts) offer a special SSI rate of $105/night or $125/night for single or double occupancy for the dates of May 21–26, 2017, before May 1st.
