It is our intention that each PhD Statistics student will be fully financially supported for four academic years, the duration of his/her program of study.

Financial support will consist of an assistantship with either teaching or research duties that provides tuition remittance and a stipend adequate for living in Austin. Students are expected to maintain a full course load and to devote effort primarily to their students and assigned duties. Support is subject to satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance of assistantship duties.

The PhD Statistics program actively encourages and supports students to take advantage of the recruitment fellowships offered by the Graduate School at UT Austin. These awards typically provide a fellowship of $28,000-36,000 as well as stipends toward medical insurance expenses, tuition and fees. Fellowships currently directed toward the recruitment of underrepresented groups include:

  • Donald D. Harrington Endowment Fellowships
  • William Powers, Jr. Recruitment Fellowships
  • McNair Scholars Graduate School Fellowships
  • South Texas Graduate School Fellowships
  • West Texas Graduate School Fellowships
