SDS Student Spotlight: Yuguang Yue

IMG_7115.JPG14 September 2017—Meet Yuguang Yue, a student in the PhD in Statistics program in the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences.

Tell us a little bit about yourself—educational background, previous work experience, etc.

I earned my bachelor degree from Fudan University with a major in Math, and earned my master's degree from UCLA with a major in Biostatistics. I never had a full-time job before, but I had a summer internship in VMware and RolandBerger Strategy Consultants.

What attracted you to the PhD in Statistics program at UT?

When I was at UCLA, my advisor highly recommended UT Austin to me, and I was attracted by this campus and beautiful city during my visit on OpenHouse.

How would you describe your area of study/specific research to someone outside your field?

Up to now, my research interest is machine learning and Bayesian nonparametric methods. If I was asked by someone outside this field, I would say my wish is to teach computers how to think and learn.
