The Fall 2022 SDS Seminar Series continues on Friday, November 18th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Eric Vance (Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics and Director of LISA (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis) at the University of Colorado Boulder). This event is in-person, but a virtual option will be available as well.
Title: Teaching Collaboration in Statistics and Data Science
Abstract: Collaboration is a necessity for today’s statisticians and data scientists, which raises questions for statistics and data science educators: Are we keeping up? Are we teaching collaboration? How does one teach collaboration skills? What are the essential collaboration skills we should teach to prepare our students for success in careers in statistics and data science? This talk will describe how collaboration can be taught at the undergraduate capstone level, graduate level, and throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. This talk will be loosely based on the following two papers:
