Course Requirements for the Applied Statistical Modeling Certificate

Course Requirements

Click on your catalog year below for a complete list of course requirements, noting the minimum grade requirements specified at the top of the document:

Keep track of your current progress toward the certificate’s requirements by running an interactive degree audit (IDA).  Note the following:

  • Certificates require a minimum of 18 hours of approved coursework.
  • No transfer credits, "credit by exam," or CR coursework can be used.
  • Although some certificate courses may also fulfill major degree requirements, not all 18 hours may overlap with other requirements.

If you notice a mistake on your IDA, such as an approved course not being counted correctly, please email stat.certificates@austin.utexas.edu.

Finishing the Certificate

If this certificate is attached to your major degree program, if your IDA shows 100% upon graduation, your official UT transcript will include the Undergraduate Certificate Program in Applied Statistical Modeling.

If you wish to pursue this certificate as a stand-alone credential, you must:

  • discuss your plan with your major advisor,
  • email stat.certificates@austin.utexas.edu so we can update your certificate to stand-alone, and
  • respond to our email at the end of the semester you graduate to let us know you’ve completed it and we will manually update your certificate status.

Course Petitions

ASM Certificate students may petition a maximum of 2 courses not on our approved list above to fulfill a certificate requirement.  To petition a course, you must:

  • be currently enrolled in the ASM certificate program,
  • have already taken or be currently enrolled in the course you are petitioning,
  • have run an interactive degree audit on your certificate recently, and
  • not already have 2 petitioned courses counting towards certificate requirements.

If you meet the above criteria, fill out the following form which requires a detailed syllabus of the course being petitioned and a brief explanation for why it should fulfill a specific certificate requirement:

Petitions are considered on an individual basis and there is no formal or informal list of approved courses. Our faculty committee reviews course petitions once per month and there is a limit of one course petition per student per month.
