Thinking about majoring in Statistics and Data Science?
The SDS major admits students for fall entry only. First-year applicants apply through the Office of Admissions, which provides information on applications, deadlines, financial aid, housing, and next steps in becoming a Longhorn!
Internal Transfer Information
Already a longhorn? The Statistics and Data Science (SDS) program is expected to begin accepting internal transfer applications for Fall 2027 admission.
Important Dates
Please review key internal transfer deadlines here: UT Austin Internal Transfer Dates.
Eligibility Requirements
Review the minimum requirements for internal transfer into the College of Natural Sciences (CNS): CNS Internal Transfer Requirements. All students who meet the minimum requirements for CNS internal transfer will be considered.
Course Suggestions
We encourage students to take the following for program readiness and application competitiveness:
- Calculus through M408D or M408S/L
- CS 303E or CS 312 (or equivalent credit)
- SDS major courses:
- SDS 313 (Fall)
- SDS 315 (Spring)
Major Course Availability
SDS 313 (Fall) and SDS 315 (Spring) will be made available to non-majors per department approval beginning in the August add/drop period and December add/drop period.
Enrollment in these courses does not guarantee admission to the SDS major. Students who enter the major without completing SDS 313 and SDS 315 should expect a minimum three-year timeline to complete degree requirements.
Important Note on Coursework
There are currently no approved substitute courses for SDS core requirements.
