Computation is transforming the process of scientific discovery as an increasing number of scientific endeavors utilize significant computational resources and data-driven science. The Certificate in Scientific Computation and Data Sciences (SC) is available to all undergraduates interested in enriching their field of study with applied computation skills, ranging from the development of algorithms and databases to coding statistical and visualization analyses.

This certificate is fulfilled with a series of computational, mathematical, and statistical coursework and culminates with an individual research project that employs computational methods to address a scientific inquiry. After completing five courses and gaining approval from our faculty committee, students will work under their chosen faculty supervisor on a semester-long research project and produce an original research paper.

Note that no "credit by examination" or "CR" coursework can be used to fulfill course requirements, and the research requirement (SDS 379R) cannot be met with any other course or research experience.
