Please join the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences in welcoming Professor Alessandro Rinaldo to our faculty! Before joining the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Rinaldo was a Dean's Chair Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Associate Dean of Research in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics in 2005.
Dr. Rinaldo is an energetic researcher with diverse research interests, mainly revolving around high-dimensional problems at the interface of theoretical statistics and machine learning. He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award and is an Institute of Mathematical Studies (IMS) Fellow.
Next semester, Dr. Rinaldo will be teaching SDS 334: Intermediate Statistical Methods, a course he is developing for our new undergraduate major in Statistics and Data Science. We are excited to see the impactful contributions Dr. Rinaldo continues to make through his research and teaching at UT Austin!
